If they make their money replacing water pumps and repairing oil leaks, general repair shops are foolish to get involved with a lot of specialty vendors who don't want to deal with once in a while customers.
We have a system to wet sand and polish plastic headlamp lenses to make them clear again. Just a little distortion can cause your headlamps to put out less light. New or polished headlamps glow white on the background of our aiming machine and the others are yellowed. Sometimes the yellowing amounts to little or NO actual light coming from headlamp. I have seen many headlamps that hurt your eyes to look at directly and are projecting almost no light. By the way, this same problem comes from old glass headlamp bulbs when the reflective backing wears off.
